Is there any economic recovery?

As billions of pounds pour into the economy from the government stimulus plan we ask if there is any sign that it is working
In my last blog I posed the question of how low the market could go? I am glad to report we have seen some recovery in markets since that date and we are perhaps at the start of our stock market rebound which should continue into 2009.
To get any real upward trend we need to see signs of economic recovery and that seems a long way away. In figures reported by New Star the estimated monthly Gross Domestic Product (GDP), our turnover, fell by 0.6%. This brings the monthly GDP down 4.2% from it height in April 2008.
So the economy continues to contract and until we receive positive economic data little will change. As you know our medium term view is the stimulus package will be a short term fix before a broader decline, but at the moment any positive seems worth having
